AI Is Rewriting Advertising

Why AI is shifting the competitive advantage from distribution to trust.

For the last five years, advertising has been a game of optimization. Brands obsessed over audiences, lookalike segments, attribution models, campaign structures, and endless A/B tests. The prevailing belief was that if you could find the right person at the right time, almost any creative could perform.

That era is ending.

Meta's latest engineering work around its Generative Ads Recommendation Model (GEM) signals a much bigger shift than another AI feature. Meta is building systems that are increasingly responsible for matching the right content with the right person. Every improvement in AI makes audience selection less of a human advantage and more of an automated capability. The platform is becoming better at distribution than any marketer ever could.

When distribution becomes a commodity, something else becomes scarce.

Trust.

This changes the entire equation for brands. If AI can determine who should see an ad, then the competitive advantage shifts to what the ad contains. Not because creative is suddenly new, but because authentic experiences are one of the few things AI can't manufacture.

For years, influencer marketing rewarded reach. Brands paid for follower counts because distribution was valuable. But if AI is deciding what content reaches consumers and not the size of a creator's audience, then credibility becomes more valuable than popularity.

The brands that win won't necessarily partner with the biggest creators. They'll partner with the people whose opinions actually change buying decisions.

A ski patroller explaining why they trust one jacket after 120 days on the mountain.

A trail runner sharing why they race in one shoe after 500 miles.

A fly fishing guide explaining the setup they use every day. Not because they're paid to say it, but because it's what they genuinely believe.

Those aren't advertisements.

They're evidence.

The next decade of advertising won't be built around producing better commercials. It will be built around collecting authentic experiences and turning them into creative that AI can distribute at scale.

That's why I believe the future of advertising starts long before an ad is ever created.

It starts with trust.

The brands building libraries of authentic recommendations today are building the highest-value creative assets for tomorrow. As AI continues to commoditize targeting, the companies with the deepest reservoir of credible, real-world experiences will have an advantage that algorithms can't replicate.

That's the future we're building toward at Rendezvu.

Not another advertising platform.

An infrastructure layer for authentic product recommendations. The kind of recommendations that people actually trust, and that AI will increasingly reward.
